For the longest time, I have called my poor mother every.single.time I make meatloaf to get her recipe. After calling her today for the 437th time, I decided I’m officially writing it down and sharing it with you!
I don’t know about you, but I love me some good meatloaf. I hate to brag, but nobody makes meatloaf like my Mama! So without further adieu…
- 1 pound ground beef (lowest amount of fat)
- 1 pound ground pork (lowest amount of fat)
- 1 can Cream of Mushroom soup
- 1 package of French Onion Soup mix (Lipton’s, according to Mom)
- 2 eggs
- Breadcrumbs…enough to make it it not stick to a wall, should you throw a lump at it (also according to mom)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease a meatloaf pan with Pam.
- Mix the ground beef and pork together with eggs, can of Cream of Mushroom soup, and package of French Onion Soup mix. Add breadcrumbs in small amounts and mix until the consistency is sticky enough to make a meatball, but not sticky enough to stick to a wall if you throw it at it (this is verbatim, per Mom).
- Put meatloaf in pan and cook for 1 hour 20 minutes.
- Drizzle ketchup across the top prior to serving if desired.
This meatloaf is amazing, just like my Mom….aweeeee!!!! Enjoy!
I made this meat loaf last night! And the night before that I made your chicken wrapped in prosciutto! To me, meatloaf is such an American thing, I always read about it in American books and see it in American movies. Here in Australia I’ve never seen it, let alone eat it. But I’ve always wanted to try it and this was yum! So you can tell your Mum that her recipe has now been made in Sydney Australia!
You just made my day!!! I love being able to share good food with others. I am so glad you liked it, Meatloaf is totally our American dish! 🙂
Hi Stephanie, I have moved back into WP.com, self hosting didn’t work for me. Sorry for the change on your end. John

No worries John! Glad to have you back!
I like the sound and probably the taste of your mother’s meatloaf! I like Jenn H’s more traditional one, which I do hamburger, 3 slices of whole wheat bread crumbled up, a T. of milk, 2 eggs, ketchup and worchestershire sauce.(Mixed well in bowl and then put in pan and add bbq and ketchup with minced onions on top!)
Ive never made a meatloaf; looks great! You are going to be the best wife ever (outside Australia that is!) 😉
I would never be able to compete with the Australian Melly the Great! 🙂
This post made me laugh so hard cuz I did the same thing with my mom ( until she passed) with her sticky buns… now I do the same thing with my sister and I have it written down but still call her, and she just informed me that she loves the call!
LOL! I swear I wrote it down before…I just have no idea where it went, oops! Although it is a good reason to give a ring I suppose. 🙂
Mouth-watering! 🙂
Very different recipe than I’ve ever seen or tried, but it looks & sounds really good! I’d of course have to argue that my mom’s is better…LOL! Sad thing is though, I don’t use her recipe…I have my own recipe & it’s pretty amazing too! Meatloaf just rocks and it’s good just about any way you make it! I’m really surprised you don’t cook it with the ketchup on it though. Not sure if it would work the same in a “meatloaf pan”…which I call a bread pan. I just cook mine in the middle of a 9×13 dish formed in the shape of a meatloaf & then top it with ketchup & bbq sauce and then put it in to bake.
Because of the cream of mushroom soup, it’s already soft. Cooking with ketchup would make it soggy. It doesn’t burn on the top or crisp like most meat loafs do. Bread pan, meatloaf pan. You say potato. I say potato.
This looks amazing. Can’t wait to try it!
Let me know if you do!!!
ooooohh yah! I’ll be over!! (kidding of course). Never tried meatloaf with pork in it, the flavor must be changed up a bit with it in there, sounds delish!
It’s sooooo good John! And if you get the kind with the least fat, there is very little grease but the cream of mushroom soup keeps it moist still!!
Gotta have looow fat. We try for 96% or more percent, worth the money. Shroom soup is great with many dishes isn’t it. I hear a dinner bell!
I think I may have done the 98% with these. And it takes like 5 minutes to whip this all together, then just pop it in the oven! And you’ll have leftovers! Yummmmy!
